The full business evaluation provides a great all round review of how each area of your business is doing. Critically it looks at how the people and processes fit together. As with all of our assignments it will be tailored to suit the needs of your business and can put more or less emphasis on particular areas. A very useful exercise when you are looking to grow your business, improve profitability or taking steps towards preparing it for re-financing. Typical functions reviewed include:
Sales | Finance | HR |
Supply Chain | Quality | Manufacturing |
H,S&E | Cash performance | Business Systems |
IT | Strategic Direction and Focus | Engineering and Design |
A strong focus on the finance function within the business to ensure that the role is performing well and supporting the business. Coaching and guidance on best practice will be given throughout and discussions held with people outside of finance to understand what support they would benefit from. Typical aspects of the review include:
Management reports | Cash controls | Sales ledger |
Purchase ledger | Debt control | Payroll controls |
Month end procedures | Stock records | Compliance issues |
A business systems review will look at the whole business systems environment and structure - the IT hardware and software is important but is often not the issue when things are not working as you would hope. It can often be the configuration, the user interfaces and how and when people are doing things (or not). Poor performance in any one area can have disastrous consequences - conversely small tweaks can sometimes have a big effect and make things move along so much better. Typically the following areas will be covered:
Catalogue all systems | Map system links | Support services |
IT Hardware | IT Software | Process maps |
Data integrity | Systems capability | Good/poor practice |
Maximise benefits | Improvements | Time saving tips |
Special projects work covers many areas of business that are outside of the day to day so additional skills or resource for a short term can really help. The variety of this work is large but some examples include:
Capital expenditure appraisal | Acquisitions | Disposals |
Product costing | Business plan development | Re-financing |
Business reporting | KPI development | Others |
It's amazing what a fresh pair of eyes with no pre-conceived ideas can do for your business. Improved bottom line, better cashflow, more productive employees...
